Rheumatoid Arthritis Can be Managed, but Not Cured
More than two million Americans suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. Doctors don't know the cause and there is no cure.
For rheumatoid arthritis sufferers like Sandy Koff, completing the simplest tasks can be difficult from stuffing change in a wallet to gripping a cup to opening a door.
Sandy has lived with rheumatoid arthritis since the age of four. It's an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of the joints.
Every six weeks she pays a visit to doctor John Goldman.
Swelling in her legs and ankles is one of Sandy 's biggest complaints.
Other patients may experience:
--fatigue and weakness
--stiffness, especially in the morning
--flu like symptoms including fever
--weight loss, anemia and depression.
